Bayelsa: Workers suspend strike, accept 50% monthly pay

The organised labour unions in Bayelsa State have suspended their industrial action over unpaid salaries and pension arrears.

The workers’ unions shelved the industrial action after an extensive meeting on Monday with the state government.

In attendance at the meeting were the government representatives and leadership of the Bayelsa State chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria.

Strike: NLC summons NEC meeting today to review strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has summoned its high­est organ, the National Executive Council (NEC), for a meeting to­day (Sunday) in Abuja to review the ongoing nationwide strike em­barked upon on Wednesday to pro­test against the hike in the price of petrol by the Federal Government.

The labour centre is expected to hold two meetings of its organs, the National Administrative Council (NAC), an organ of elected officers and the NEC, comprising represen­tatives of all the Congress affiliates.

Edo Govt increases Workers’ Minimum Wage from N18,000 to N25,000

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo on Sunday announced the increment of the National Minimum Wage from N18,000 to N25, 000 with immediate effect for employees in the State Public Service.

He also promised prompt payment of outstanding arrears of salary to the staff of Local Government Councils in the state.

Oshiomhole who made the announcement on Sunday at the grand finale of activities to mark the 2016 Workers Day, said that plans had also been concluded to pay staff of Egor Local Government Council who were being owned 13 months arrears of salary, within the next two weeks.

Nigeria: Oyo Salary Crisis - Ajimobi, Labour Squabble, Governor Says Workers Not Creative

Except a common ground over the lingering salary crisis is reached between the Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress and Governor Abiola Ajimobi, the public sector in the state might be paralyzed after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum given by labour on Thursday.
