Post-UTME Scrapping: ASUU go against FG’s

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Wednesday, kicked against the Federal Government’s directive for tertiary institutions to scrap the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Post-UTME, for admission of candidates for the 2016/2017 academic session, saying the quality of tertiary education in the country could improve if the institutions are allowed to regulate their students admission process.

Oyo public schools shut over students’ protest

Students of secondary school in Oyo State trooped out en masse on Monday in demonstration against alleged plans by the Governor  Abiola Ajimobi-led government to privatise secondary education in the state.

The students who were in their respective school uniforms swooped on strategic locations in the state, including the government secretariat disrupting activities, chanting songs in defiance of security operatives.

NYSC has not been scrapped – Presidency

The federal government has denied scrapping the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

There were reports that the scheme, which was established since 1975 by then Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd), has been scrapped by President Muhammadu Buhari, alongside post-UMTE.

However, the presidency described the story as unfounded and legally illogical.

FG scraps post UTME Pegs Jamb cut-off at 180

The Federal Government Thursday scrapped the conduct of post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) for candidates seeking admission into higher institution.

The government explained that all tertiary institutions were at liberty to conduct screening for candidates seeking admission into any school.

Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, said this on Thursday in Abuja after declaring open the 2016 Combined Policy Meeting on Admissions to Universities, Polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria.

OAU unions row over VC selection

There is apprehension at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, over the selection of a new Vice Chancellor (VC).

On the one hand is the quarrel of the unions over their roles in the selection process; on the other hand is the allegation that the outgoing VC, Prof Bamitale Omole, is scheming to place his stooge in the exalted office.

N3 million Loan to NYSC Member

To promote youth employment and entrepreneurship the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has approved the N3 million credit line for each beneficiary of Youth Innovative Entrepreneurship Development Programme (YIEDP). 

Mr Godwin Emefiele, the governor of CBN, made this announcement during the launch of the programme in Abuja. According to the governor, the loan would be available to each youth corps member and those with not more than five years of post-NYSC experience......Read more>>
