Post-UTME Scrapping: ASUU go against FG’s

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Wednesday, kicked against the Federal Government’s directive for tertiary institutions to scrap the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Post-UTME, for admission of candidates for the 2016/2017 academic session, saying the quality of tertiary education in the country could improve if the institutions are allowed to regulate their students admission process.

Two UNILAG Master students drown during birthday party at Lagos beach

Two postgraduate students of the University of Lagos were on Sunday drowned in the Elegushi Beach during the celebration of their friend’s birthday.

It was gathered that the deceased – Adesola Ogunmefun and Funmi Odusina – graduated from the Covenant University and were on the verge of bagging Master’s Degrees in International Law and Diplomacy from UNILAG.

According to Punch, the deceased and the host were having fun at the beach around 6pm when they were swept into the Atlantic Ocean.

FG scraps post UTME Pegs Jamb cut-off at 180

The Federal Government Thursday scrapped the conduct of post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) for candidates seeking admission into higher institution.

The government explained that all tertiary institutions were at liberty to conduct screening for candidates seeking admission into any school.

Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, said this on Thursday in Abuja after declaring open the 2016 Combined Policy Meeting on Admissions to Universities, Polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria.
