Rio2016 | Senate Probes Nigeria’s Poor Outing

Worried by the ill preparation of the Ministry of Sports prior to the take-off of the recently-concluded Rio Olympics, the Nigeria Senate may probe the roles of the Minister of Sport, Solomon Dalung and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) over the poor performance of the country’s contingent to the global event.

Nigeria: Rio 2016 - Siasia Picks Ighalo, Mikel, Akpeyi As Overage Players

Abuja — Nigeria's Dream Team VI Coach, Samson Siasia, has finally penned down Odion Ighalo, John Mikel Obi and goal keeper Daniel Akpeyi as the three overage players for the football event at the Olympic Games that hold in Rio, in August.

THISDAY checks at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) revealed last night that Siasia settled for the players because of established history of long ties among other pressing exigencies.

Godfrey Oboabona, who was also one of Siasia 's prime targets for the overage picks, ultimately did not make the final cut because his Turkish club, Çaykur Rizespor insisted he would not be released for the Olympic football event.

RIO 2016:Kelechi Iheanacho Picks Man City Ahead Of Nigeria

Kelechi Iheanacho has opted not to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games and has decided to link up with Manchester City squad for pre-season training instead.

Manchester Evening News says City were under no obligation to release the Super Eagles striker as the competition is outside Fifa’s window for international games, and new coach Guardiola has instructed that all the players should take part in pre-season training.
